Burton K. Sams SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- Burton K. Sams, 67, Springfield, Va., a former Culver residen, died Sunday in Springfield. He was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Culver. He was a graduate of Culver High School and Emporia State College. Mr. Sams entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1938, received his commission and wings in 1939 and retired in 1968 as a colonel after 30 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Kristine, of the home; a son, Lawrence Lee, Midland, Mich.; three daughters, Irene Hackett, Springfield, Va.; Lynn Beavers, Norfolk, Va., and Sherry Sams, Montclair, Calif.; three brothers, Vaden, Culver; William R., Sateillite Beach, Fla., and Larry, 602 Aullwood, Salina; five sisters, Agnes Sams, Shawnee Mission; Velma Pettle, Smolan, Bethel Jilka, Hill City; Lois Valle, Patterson, N.J., and Margaret Ulcek, San Diego, Calif., and 10 grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday in Washington, D.C. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington. |
